What We Do
Plan for Cleaner Air
With assistance from the California Air Resources Board and South Coast Air Quality Management District, our engineers and specialists develop comprehensive long-range strategies for how VCAPCD will achieve and maintain federal and state air quality standards. The Air Quality Management Plan details past, current and forecasted emissions and air pollution levels, and it analyzes the expected impact of local, state and federal regulations and programs designed to improve air quality.
Implement Transportation Measures
Our transportation specialist works with the Southern California Association of Governments, Ventura County Transportation Commission and others to implement transportation control measures to reduce emissions from vehicles on local highways and roads. In addition, we implement transportation conformity regulations to ensure federal actions do not interfere with progress toward attainment of national air quality standards.
Develop Rules
Our engineers draft proposals for new rules and amendments by evaluating their ability to reduce emissions and meet mandates as well as their economic impact. Proposed rules are shared and discussed at public workshops and meetings before the Air Pollution Control Board holds a public hearing to consider adoption.
Review Projects
In accordance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), our staff reviews proposed development projects being considered by the County of Ventura, cities and other public agencies to determine potential air quality impacts and recommended mitigation measures.
Distribute Grants
Our staff members manage multiple federal, state and local programs that award grants to businesses, organizations and residents to help them reduce emissions of air pollutants.
