Issue Permits

Our engineers and technicians operate a permitting program that evaluates the local, state and federal requirements that apply to facilities that emit air pollutants and the control methods they need to use. Permits need to demonstrate compliance with air pollution rules and regulations. 

We also administer a registration program for diesel engines that are used in agricultural operations.

Tally Emissions

We develop an estimate of air pollutants emitted each year based on state and federal research and facility surveys. This estimate helps us track our progress and develop solutions for improving air quality.

We also estimate toxic air pollutant emissions from permitted facilities and their potential health risks. We notify residents of significant toxic impacts posed by facilities near them and work to reduce those impacts.

Encourage Alternative Transportation

We ask employers to implement programs that would reduce the number of cars on the road and to survey their employees about their use of options like carpooling, buses and cycling.
