Help for New Businesses

If it involves 100 square feet or more of asbestos-containing material, you may need to notify us in writing at least 10 working days prior to starting the work. See our Asbestos page for more information.

• Combustion equipment
• Equipment or processes that emit dust or other particles
• Equipment or processes that emit solvents or other organic compounds, such as paint or solvents
• Equipment or processes that emit air toxics or may cause a nuisance

You may need to apply for an Air Pollution Control Permit from the district. Check the list of equipment and processes that do and do not require permits. For information on the application process, visit our Permits page.

You need to submit an Occupancy Permit Review Questionnaire to the district. If we determine your business does not need an Air Pollution Control Permit, we will indicate that with a stamp on the questionnaire. For more information, visit the Occupancy Permits page.
