What We Do

Ensure Compliance

Our inspectors make sure that pollution-emitting facilities are properly permitted, operated and source-tested according to local, state and federal rules.

We inspect facilities with permits to ensure they are following the conditions the district set for them. Unpermitted facilities are checked to determine if they are subject to regulations. Inspectors may issue Notices of Violation, Notices to Comply or Notices to Supply Information.

If companies seek variances because equipment breakdowns are causing more emissions than what is permitted, we represent the district before the Air Pollution Control District Hearing Board and make sure companies comply with orders.

To prevent the installation of unpermitted sources of air pollution and unsupervised renovation and demolition of facilities containing asbestos, we review applications for certificates of occupancy and building permits.

We also certify whether certain water heaters, boilers and furnaces meet emission limits before they are sold or installed.

Investigate Complaints

Our inspectors try to determine the source of odors, dust, fumes and other air pollutants that are reported by the public.

Issue Advisories

We publish Compliance Assistance Advisories for businesses regulated by the district or state and for other segments of the community as needed. Advisories may inform permit holders of revised rules, regulations or requirements.
